Introduction
Jammu - a city of temples, where glittering 'sihkars' add to the ambience of this holy city. Jammu is located along River Tawi in the foot hills of the Himalayas. Jammu is actually a combination of two towns. The older one overlooks the river from a hill top and the new town is across the river.According to popular legend, the ancient king Jambu Lochan established the city of Jambupura near the Bahu fort on the banks of the river Tawi. The seat of the Hindu Dogra rulers, Jammu attained its position of glory during the rule of Maharaja Gulab Singh (mid-19th century). Amongst other important palaces and temples, the Maharaja started construction of the grand Raghunath temple complex. Completed by his son Ranbir Singh, it is one of the largest Hindu temple complexes in India. The winter capital of the state shifts to Jammu between November and April.

How to get there
- Air :- Jammu is well connected with the rest of the country by all the major means of transport. The city is accessible by air and the city has an airport. A number of flights are available to and from several of the major cities in the country.
- Rail:-Jammu Tawi is the main railhead that has a number of trains for most of the important towns and cities of the country. Moreover, the longest rail route that stretches from Jammu Tawi to Kanyakumari and touches almost all the main cities and towns of the country, originates from here.
- Road:-One can easily reach Jammu by the National Highway 1A that goes from Punjab and runs through this city, connecting it to the rest of the state including the capital Srinagar. The state transport corporation runs several buses to most of the big towns and cities in north India.

There are pure wool shawls called raffal which have different counts of wool - 40, 60, 80 etc., and the shawl is progressively more expensive as the count increases. Shawls mixed with other fibers like cotton and cotton derivatives are far cheaper. On the other and, woolen shawls mixed with pashmina will be far more expensive. Then too, there are shawls that look and feel like pashmina and which are priced between wool and pashmina. Here too, the quality of papier mache differs markedly, depending on two factors. The first is the papier mache in its raw state. Unless it is smoothened adequately to be silky to the touch, it is not considered high grade. On the other hand, inexpensive papier mache, brightly painted and varnished, makes a variety of gifts and souvenirs that do not cost a fortune. Eggs, eggcups, candle and pen stands, kum kum boxes and cigarette boxes are just a few options at the low end. Items made from walnut wood come from three parts of the tree: the branches, the trunk and the root. The branches have the pales colour of wood, and the trunk the darkest Branches have no veins trunks have the strongest marked veins. Objects made out of the root will be the costliest because of the wood used.
