East India Tribal Culture Tour

This is a 13 day tour which takes you through a road and rail journey across various villages of Odisha and includes cities such as Kolkata, Bhubaneshwar, Baligudaa, Rayagada, Tatapani, Jeypore and Puri. Starting from Kolkata which is known for its old world charm and encompassing places where time seems to have been standing still, this tour takes you to places where you cannot even imagine that life existed in this way.

Day 01

Arrive in Kolkata

The tour representative will be there to pick you up from the Kolkata airport or the railway station. From here you will be transferred to your chosen hotel as per your liking budget. After a brief period of rest you will commence with sightseeing of different places in Kolkata. Visit the very famous Victoria Memorial which is a well known museum for ancient Indian art as well as history. Then proceed to see 2300 foot Howrah Bridge which is built across Hoogly River In the evening do some shopping at popular shopping spots in the city. Kolkata has a vibrant nightlife. Visit the pubs and bars as per your wish. Overnight stay is in the hotel.

Day 02

Kolkata to Bhubaneswar by flight

In the morning check-out from the hotel to catch the first train to Bhubaneswar. The train journey roughly spans a period of 7 hours. On Reaching Bhubaneswar check into your chosen hotel and then rest for a while. Bhubaneswar is an ancient city popular particularly for the Hindu Temple depicting Kalinga architecture, Lingaraja Temple. If history and archeology interests you, visit the Odisha State Museum which is a huge museum with several historical artifacts and a library. At night you can have s nice dinner at the hotel Overnight stay is in hotel in Bhubaneswar.

Day 03

Bhubaneswar to Balliguda by road

In the morning you will leave in a prepaid taxi to Baliguda. The distance between Bhubaneshwar and Baliguda gets completed in a span of 6 hrs provided road and weather conditions are good. Baliguda is basically a very small town where people come to view lifestyle of Kandha tribe from close quarters. The place offers panoramic natural views of verdant forest. The tranquil environment of this place takes you into a zone of peace and serenity. Visit the Barakhamba area to see the geometrical tattoos on faces of Desia Kondh tribe women. You will be amazed at the way they lead their lives. Overnight stay is in the hotel.

Day 04

Balliguda to Rayagada by road

In the morning leave for Rayagada in a pre-paid taxi. It takes approximately 3 hours to reach Rayagada. Rayagada is particularly famous for Laxminarayan Temple. There are idols of Hindu deities here such as Lord Hanuman, Laxminarayan, Lord Balabhadra, Jagannath and Subhadra and Lord Siva. The place is worshiped by thousands of devotees all through the year. You must also visit the Maa Majhighariani Temple which is also highly revered. If you are fond of shopping try indulging in shopping of beautiful shawls, college bags, conference pads etc made by Dongria Kandha. Overnight stay is in the hotel in Raygada.

Day 05

Rayagada to Jeypore by road

In the morning you will leave in prepaid taxi to Jeypore. It roughly takes 4 to 5 hours to reach Jeypore depending on weather and road conditions. Once you reach Jeypore check into your chosen hotel. After a short period of rest you can step out for some sightseeing. Visit the Bagara Falls which is a very nice picnic spot in Bagara. There are three different falls here which descend from a height of about 30 ft into Kolaban River. This area is frequented for its outstanding natural beauty. In the evening have your dinner in the hotel only. Overnight stay is in the hotel****

Day 06

Jeypore Bonda tribes Gadaba tribes Jeypore

In the morning you will again leave for some more sightseeing of the Jeypore city. Visit the Kolab Hydro Electric power reservoir and Botanical Garden. This is well known picnic spot which is located 3000ft above sea level. At the Kolab Botanical Garden you can see more than 200 different species of flowers. Overnight stay is in the hotel. Visit the Gupteshwar Caves which are located on top of a very big limestone hill. There is temple dedicated to Lord Siva located here. People from surrounding areas also come to worship the deity. Overnight stay is in the hotel in Jeypore.

Day 08

Kunduli to Taptapani by road

In the morning leave for the Taptapani in taxi. The journey takes around 8 hrs. Once you reach check into your chosen hotel and rest for a while. Taptapani is primarily famous for the sulphur springs. These sulphur springs have a medicinal value and will cure you of different skin diseases. People from far and wide come to bathe in these springs. The area is surrounded by the picturesque Eastern Ghats. You will without a doubt enjoy the view from your hotel room. For dinner come back to the hotel and have a nice piping hot meal. Overnight stay is at the hotel.

Day 09

Taptapani - Saora Tribes - Taptapani

In the morning you must visit the Deer Park which is maintained by the Forest Department. Here you will see wide variety of flora and fauna. There are temples which are located in the vicinity such as Kandimata Mandir and Nilakantheswar Temple. You will see several small waterfalls, lakes, rivulets and tribal villages in this area. Visit the Buddhist Monastery. Very close to Taptapaani is Gopalpur on Sea. It is a beach destination known for light house which offers spectacular view of sea and the Chilika Lake. In the evening come back to the hotel. Overnight stay is in hotel.

Day 10

Tatapani to Chilka Lake to Puri

In the morning you will reach the railway station to catch a train for Puri. It just takes 3 hours to reach Puri from Taptapani. In Puri you will first step out to see Shree Jagannath Temple which is an important religious site for Hindu. The Jagannath Rath Yatra is a very important event which takes place just once in a year. Once you are done with temple viewing you can visit the Puri Beach. The beach is on the Swargadwar Road. You can indulge in some shopping here. Overnight stay is in the hotel.

Day 11

Excursion to Konark Temple and tour of Puri

In the morning you can attend the morning Arti at the temple. The temple complex basically comprises of one main temple and 30 surrounding small temple. You must also visit the Gundicha Temple which is Kalinga style sandstone temple again dedicated to Lord Jagannath. Then there is Ramachandi Temple which is a lovely spot located on Banks of River Kusabhadra which flows into Bay of Bengal. If you want to indulge in some shopping visit any of the government or private outlet in the city. You can buy different handicraft items such as coir products, ikat saris, metal ware, sea shell items, papier mache masks, wooden statues, beach umbrellas etc. Overnight stay is in the hotel in Puri.
