This 13-day South India Tour by train starts from Mumbai and takes you to all key cities in South such as Auragabad to visit the Ajanata Ellora Caves, Hyderabad which is the capital of state of Telangana, Mysore, Garden City Bangalore, Chennai and then back to Mumbai. Besides visiting different temples and heritage sites of the South, this outstanding trip also gives a real feel of culture and tradition of South India.

Itinenary

Day 1:

Arrive in Mumbai

Once you reach Mumbai the tour representative will transfer you to your chosen hotel. After resting for a while you can step out to check out different place in tourist interest such as Juhu Chowpatty Beach, ISCKON Temple, Siddivinayak Temple, Gateway of India, Taj Mahal Hotel etc. At night you must take a drive done Marine Drive which simply looks spectacular when the lights are turned on. Mumbai is also known for Bollywood industry. You can also visit homes of your Favourite movie stars if you are bitten by the fan bug. Overnight stay is in hotel in Mumbai.

Day 2:

Sightseeing in Mumbai. Later board overnight train to Aurangabad

In the morning after your breakfast you can check out from the hotel and proceed to see other key sites in the city such as Mani Bhawan, Hanging Gardens, Kamla Nehru Park, Prince of Wales Museum, Haji Ali etc. You can even visit Crawford Market which is the biggest shopping destination. If you wish to do some shopping at the mall there are some very nice malls in Mumbai such as High Street Phoenix Mall, Inorbit Mall etc. Later in the evening the tour representative will transfer you to the railway station so that you catch train for Aurangabad on time. Overnight is on the train.

Day 3:

Sightseeing in Aurangabad - Ajanta Caves

In the morning as you reach Aurangabad you will be transferred to the hotel of your choice. After resting for some time you can proceed for sightseeing of the city. Auragabad is famous for Ajanta Caves. The caves have painting depicting life of Buddha. Some represent the Jataka tales. Keep in mind that Ajanata Caves are close on Mondays so plan your trip accordingly. Another place to see in Aurangabad is Bibi Ka Maqbara. It is basically a mausoleum made in marble around mid 1600. Overnight stay is in your hotel.

Day 4:

Visit the tourist places in Aurangabad - Ellora Caves

In the morning you will leave for visit to the very popular Ellora caves which date back to the 5th century. You will see various temples and monasteries here which are cut out of vertical face of rock. The very famous Kailasa Temple is the biggest monolithic structure in the world. Do not plan this excursion on Tuesday as the caves are closed on that day. Other places which you can visit are Jumma Masjid, Kali Masjid, Quila- E ark etc. Rest of the day you can spend at leisure. Overnight stay is in your hotel.

Day 7:

Hyderabad to Chennai by overnight train

In the morning once you check out from the hotel you can go to visit Mecca Masjid which is one of the oldest mosques in the city and Salarjung Museum which houses a huge collection of antique paintings, sculptures, manuscripts and textiles. Another popular site of Hyderabad is Golconda Fort which is located on top of a granite hill. The tombs of the Qutub Shahi kings are located inside the fort. Golkonda is famous for diamonds. In fact, the most popular diamond in the world- Kohinoor diamond was mined here. Late in the evening go to the railway station to catch train for Chennai. Overnight is on train.

Day 9:

Sightseeing in Mamallapuram & Kanchipuram. Return to Chennai

In the morning once you are done with your breakfast you can leave to visit popular tourist sites such as Kanchipuram and Mamallapuram. In Kanchipuram you must visit temples such as Ekambareswara Temple, Sri Kamakshiamman Temple, Siva Temple and Sri Vardaraja Perumal Temple. For those who love shopping KAnchipuram is known for its amazing collection of silk and saris. Mamallapuram is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here you can visit the Shore Temple which depicts scenes from Hindu epic Mahabharata. There are several temples and mandapams which have been cut out from rock in Mamallapuram. In the evening return back to Chennai as overnight stay is in Chennai.

Day 10

Chennai to Mysore by train. Later sightseeing in Mysore

In the morning you will leave for Mysore on a train. In Mysore you will first check into your chosen hotel and then leave for sightseeing of the city. The city is a center of art and culture. It is in fact referred to as cultural capital of state of Karnataka. Visit the Mysore Palace which is a piece of architectural brilliance. It demonstrates both Saracenic and Hindu style of architecture. There are domes, archways, turrets, sculptures and colonnades at each and every part of the palace. In you have time on hand you must drive down to Chamundi Hills in order to see Chamundeshwari Temple. You can have the panoramic view of the Mysore city from the hills. Indulge in some shopping of Mysore silk. Overnight stay is in Mysore.

Day 12

Mysore to Bangalore by road and sightseeing in Bangalore

In the morning you will leave for Bangalore also known as the Silicon city. The city is home to the IT industry and you will see sky rising buildings everywhere. It takes 3 to 4 hours to reach Bangalore depending on traffic and weather condition. Bangalore city is buzzing with a lot of activity. You must visit tourist places in Bangalore such Cubbon Park, Tipu Sultan Palace, Vidhan Souda, Bangalore Palace, Lalbagh Botancial Garden etc. In the evening you can have a nice time at any of the well known pubs or eating joints of city. Overnight stay is in Bangalore.

Day 13

Bangalore to Mumbai By Flight

In the morning you will check out from the hotel so that you can leave for the airport to catch the flight for Mumbai. On reaching Mumbai the tour representative will transfer you either to your hotel or to the railway station where you can catch the train for your onward destination. This makes the conclusion of your South India tour by train
