This is just a three days tour which takes you right through the cave temples as well as mandapams which have been cut out of rocks located in city of Mahabalipuram. These rock temples depict scenes from Hindu epics, legends and mythology Mahabalipuram is actually a UNESCO World Heritage site which is primarily known as city of” Seven Pagodas”. Now you can just see the Shore Temples. These twin Shore Temples are actually the oldest in South India. Then there is Arjuna’s Penance which is biggest Bas Relief in the whole world. This tour is meant for those who want to explore the city of Mahabalipuram to the fullest.

Itinenary

Day 01

Arrive in Chennai. Drive to Mahabalipuram

Arrive in Chennai. You will take by air conditioned car to Mamallapuram also known as Mahabalipuram or Mamallapattana which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The distance between the two places is 58 kms and it takes1 hour 30 minutes to cover this stretch. On reaching check in the hotel .The historic town is famous for its ancient "Seven Pagodas" Out which, only the Shore Temple survives till date. Mahabalipuram was also a bustling seaport where ships anchored laden with precious goods. Overnight stay is in Mahabalipuram

Day 02

Sightseeing tour of Mahabalipuram

In the morning after breakfast embark for a city tour of Mahabalipuram. Visit the intricately carved temples and rock-cut caves depicting incidents from Hindu legends, and inscriptions of holy epics and mythology can be seen. The life size images Of Arjuna are carved on the rock wall. The five chariots are also carved out of a single rock. See Alamparai fort. The twin structure of Shore Temple is one of the oldest in South India and is worth visiting. This seafront temple comprises 3 ornate granite shrines. Afternoon is at leisure. Stroll in the local market or saunter on the soft sands of Mahabalipuram Beach. Overnight stay is in Mahabalipuram.

Day 03

Drive from Mahabalipuram to Chennai. Visiting Kanchipuram enroute

In the morning after breakfast drive back to Chennai. Enroute visit Kanchipuram and see its fine architecture of the ancient temples. Visit the famous Siva temple made in the 7th century, and ancient Ekambareswara temple. Sri Kailasanathar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is a vast complex with intricate sandstone carvings and is worth visiting. Ulagalanda Perumal Temple houses a huge statue of Lord Vishnu A visit to the Sri Vardarainja Perumal Temple and the Sri Kamakshiamman Temple, is a must. Have a unique shopping experience in Kanchipuram as the place is a paradise for the shoppers wanting to buy colorful Kanchipuram silk and saris woven with gold threads.
